Line up Hull GEW 2011

Hull Training in partnership with the Hull Youth Enterprise Partnership and HWS Hosting is excited to announce the line up for Global Entrepreneurship Week 2011. And while it may be global in scope, at its heart, the Week is a local initiative that reflects the customs and entrepreneurial culture of each community. After all, what works in Poland might be quite different from what works in Mauritius, London or indeed in Hull.

Business gurus and BBC One Apprentice stars are amongst those that will join events during the week ( Ruth Badger and Claire Young) , as well as local young entrepreneurs and Sarah Longthorn Managing Director of Wedgewelly. Starting on 14 November 2011, the week-long initiative run in the UK by Princes Youth Business International is aimed at young people across the world and is designed to inspire, connect, inform, mentor and engage young people. During the week young people of all ages will hear inspirational speeches and take part in different activities and competitions.

The main sponsors and supporters of GEW 2011 in Hull are the Co-operative, Hull Training, hull City council, Job centreplus, KC, Mail News and Media, Arco, NPS Humber, Xing, St Stephen’s, William Jacksons. Hull College, John Cracknell Youth Enterprise Bank, University of Hull, Hull FC, Hull City, Lynne Hope communications, HWS Hosting and hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce

Hull’s Global Entrepreneurship Week in 2010 was awarded an ‘Outstanding Impact’ Badge of Honour from Enterprise UK, the organisers of Global Entrepreneurship Week, for its series of ’inspiring and impactful events. This year over 2,000 young people will take part in activities in the City either within school and college or at the five major conferences organised at the Guildhall or at the University of Hull

Councillor Steven Bayes said:

"Global Entrepreneurship Week is a great opportunity for young people in Hull to develop their enterprising ideas and learn new skills.
"We want to invest in the future of our city and encourage young people to set up their own businesses to grow Hull's economy and attract further investment. I know that we have lots of talented youngsters in the city and I am looking forward to meeting some of them. If any business in the city wants to get involved in sponsoring the week please get in touch"

Former BBC Apprentice finalist Ruth Badger who is making a guest appearance. said:

"I love visiting Hull as it is an enterprising city and I really enjoy sharing my journey with budding young entrepreneurs who really want to make a difference in the business world.”

“Last year I was delighted to become a Patron of the Hull Youth Enterprise Partnership and to support its activities that support Hull’s enterprising young people to ‘dream dangerously’. There is no doubt the city of Hull is doing a great deal to support its enterprising young people. I am proud to see that Hull’s activities to support this important Week and other enterprising activities go from strength to strength and I look forward to addressing the delegates and young people this year.”

"I hope my visit helps encourage the next breed of business success that the city boasts."

Nicholas Hildyard DL FCA, Joint Managing Director, Arco Ltd said

“More than anything young people need to have aspirations which come from inspirational leadership. Global Entrepreneurship Week exposes them to some great leaders and encourages them to stand on others’ shoulders to be able to look further.”
