Bronwyn Wilson is aged 15 and home educated she didn’t think that h er habit of sewing a few strange sock and fabric creations using any material she could get her hands on was more than a childish phase but as she kept producing more and more she decided they needed a new home. As a result she started selling them to friends and family, the success of which encouraged her to approach a local art shop to stock and sell her fanciful creations.
They were an immediate success and she has gone on to sell hundreds of what were now becoming know as Crazy Critters World, (“As they all have a slightly quirky, crazy character or design!”) which also became the name of the company she set up.
She has gone on to expand the basic sock range into many different fabric items including badges, bags, box-framed Critters, sculptures and mobile-phone holders. With the help of the John Cracknell Youth Enterprise Bank to buy a sewing machine, she’s got even more ideas and plans for expanding her business. Support has also been forthcoming rom another direction with Maureen Foers OBE, Yorkshire Women’s Enterprise Champion, now acting as Bronwyn’s business mentor. Bronwyn has done specialist critters for a range of well known people including Shadow Chancellor Alan Johnson MP, blind explorer Miles Hilton Barber, Claire Young, Ruth Badger and Lord Sugar
Bronwyn also won Hull’s Badgers Sett Enterprise challenge impressing former BBC Apprentice Ruth Badger so much that she gave extra support to bronwyn in terms of help in developing a future website since winning in Novemvber Bronwyn has taken on her cousin and a student to undertake some of the production work and established a her business at her parents house. Bronwyn is an adviser on support needed by young people and on the design of Hull’s Myplace facility
