Youth Enterprise Summit #YES13

On 6th June 2013, as part of Humber Business Week, Hull will host the first youth enterprise summit in Yorkshire supported by international business guru and former BBC Apprentice Star Ruth Badger as well as young entrepreneurs in Hull at Malet Lambert School in order to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Hull’s contribution to the youth enterprise agenda.

The event will see school based businesses, The Green Queens, who have developed primary support materials relating to the environment, and Loui Fowler of Triple R Banners, who has designed a range of sport fans hand held banners. Both of these businesses are previous winners of the Badgers Sett Enterprise Challenge and continue to get support from Ruth Badger. Also speaking will be Oliver Wilson Managing Director of Xuro and currently an apprentice working with CityWorks, Hull City Council and Malet Lambert School helping the organisations to embed enterprise within their work with young people.

Ruth Badger said:

"There has never been a better time to start a business and there is support on offer at every turn from peers and local support providers in Hull. That’s why I was keen to organise with my friends in Hull, Yorkshire’s first Youth Enterprise Summit, Hull is one of the most enterprising places in the UK for young people then Malet Lambert School is an integral part of that achievement”.

“I am delighted to work with Hull City Council and Hull’s young entrepreneurs on this summit and to raise the profile of what young people can achieve, as they are the lifeblood of our future economy and are integral to Hull achieving its aims under your City Plan, I am looking forward to hearing more about the success of the Triple R Banners and the Green Queens.”

Oliver Wilson, 19, co-chair of Let’s Talk Business, Managing Director of Xuro said:

After discussing with organisers what they are hoping to achieve from the summit I was pleased to agree to outline my journey so far and to join them in their campaign to raise the profile of youth entrepreneurship”

  1. I'm not surprised to see Hull leading the way with youth enterprise in Yorkshire. Hull's approach to promoting enterprise is truly inspirational and could seriously start turning around the city's fortunes within a generation.

Great to see that Ruth continues to support and inspire Hull's young start-ups and important that BIS gets to see exactly what is being done by all those organisations and individuals who are making Hull such an enterprising place.

Have a great summit next week and a great GEW in November.
