It is with great pleasure that we can now provide an insight into what has now become an institutional week of enjoyment, excitement and enterprise in Hull. We are confident that Global Entrepreneurship Week 2011 in Hull will be bigger, better and beyond anything experienced in previous years.
Increasing enterprise and creating a more dynamic business sector is central to an innovative, creative and competitive economy. It is a vital contributor to the health of our economy and to ensuring diversity of the opportunities available within our society. As part of our ambition we are seeking to achieve a change in the perception of enterprise and entrepreneurship amongst young people; Global Entrepreneurship Week is a key element to that change, challenging old stereotypes and opening eyes to new possibilities whilst also ensuring that they have the information they need to make the right choices on the path to developing their full potential.
Hull is already doing a great deal to support its enterprising young people through its support of the Youth Enterprise Bank which has now gained financial support from KC, the Badgers Sett Enterprise Challenge, Hull Ready and the Enterprise Academy; all of which we hope mean that todays young people go on to aspire to setup their own businesses, start social enterprises to improve their communities and be innovative employees themselves. It is especially pleasing to see local companies and organisations get involved in all these activities, providing an invaluable link between current and future business people in the city. We are also pleased that with the support of Jobcentre Plus Hull has established an Enterprise Club for young people to develop their enterprising idea with Hull Training and HWS Hosting.
To conclude, we wish everyone taking part in Global Entrepreneurship Week 2011 the most rewarding and stimulating experience and look forward to seeing the fruits of your involvement in the years to come.

Environmental Enterprise Challenge
The Environmental Enterprise Challenge is a local initiative that this year will involve over 100 students from Mallet Lambert School who will be given a secret brief and have to develop a product or service based around those instructions linked to the theme of the City's green economy and the City of Hull.
Working in groups the young people will have to allocate roles to each group member then create a product or service and, all importantly, show how it will make money. On hand for advice will be local business people including Mail News and Media, Institute of Directors and N-Power, but the final presentations will be down to the groups themselves, the winner being chosen by a plane of judges looking for the most convincing business idea. Former BBC Apprentice star Claire Young will be awarding prizes as well as sharing thoughts on her own 'enterprise' journey.
Imagine being given money and the freedom to do with it as you like! This evening on Day 2 of the week is all about celebrating the Hull Ready programme, with presentations from primary school children about how they've spent their £150 loan from a business as part of the Make £5 Blossom project, followed by the invited audience of education and business leaders being given their own entrepreneurial task to complete during the morning and to be judged by the young people.
Watching closely will be guest speaker Claire Young, finalist frm the BBC's The Apprentice who will go on to speak of her journey in business so far.
Wednesday 16th November
Hull - Our City and the Mail at the heart of it
Planning, promotion and delivery are all essential qualities in running a successful business, Primary School pupils taking part in this event at the University of Hull will be practicing all three as they consider how they will handle an emerging news story in the city with the assistance of students from Hull College and reports from the Hull Daily Mail.
Advice from experts will be heard before the young people devide on how to react to the news story. Watching closely and available to support the young people on the day will be senior executives of Mail News and Media.

Post 16 Enterprise Masterclass
Many of the 16-19 year olds taking part in this masterclass will already have some idea what their future directions will be, but one person capable of perhaps maing them thinking again will be no-nonsense, straight talking successful business woman Ruth Badger, runner up in the BBC's The Apprentice in 2006.
As well as giving young people the benefit of her experience in the world of business, Ruth will be heading up the Badgers Sett, a panel of judges examining in detail the results of a group activity to come up with a marketing concept for the 2012 Olympic Games related to objects given to each group. Groups will be preparing a dynamic but concise four minute presentation to the Badgers Sett to decide who will walk off with the cash prize for best concept and pitch. This years event also sees the launch of the Lee Creamer Young Persons Enterprise Club by Hull Training in association with Jobcentre Plus and HWS Hosting.
Friday 18th November
Secondary School Enterprise Masterclass
Bringing the week to a close is our Secondary Enterprise Masterclass, which will again see young people taking on the taswk of devising a convincing marketing concept for the 2012 Olympic Games before pitching it to Ruth Badger and fellow judges in the Badgers Sett. Groups will be preparing a dynamic but concise four minute presentation to the Badgers Sett to decide who will walk off with the cash prize for best concept and pitch.
The winning team will receive a special prise of £500 in vouchers courtesy of Arco. Further stimulation is guaranteed with a wide ranging group of speakers which include serveral young entrepreneurs and, of course, Ruth Badger herself.
