Solicitors Help Promote Global Entrepreneurship Week 2012

A leading firm of solicitors has added its support to a major business event which aims to celebrate and promote entrepreneurship. Neil Hudgell Solicitors has been unveiled as headline sponsor for this year’s Hull Global Entrepreneurship  Week which runs from November 12 to 18.

During the week there will be a range of activities to give local entrepreneurs the chance to showcase their projects, meet other like-minded inspirational individuals and generally raise the profile of entrepreneurship across the city.  Activities range from enterprise competitions to talks from local role models to large scale conferences. High-profile speakers at this year’s event include former candidates from BBC1’s The Apprentice Ruth Badger and Claire Young.

Hull Global Entrepreneurship Week – part of an international initiative to promote inspirational business leaders – is organised by The Hull Youth Enterprise Partnership which supports and encourages young people aged 8-25 to become more enterprising.  The partnership helps young people to overcome economic and social barriers that deny them the opportunity of economic inclusion, progression and choice, enabling them to reach their full potential in the world of employment.
Managing Director Neil Hudgell comments: “Local entrepreneurs play a valuable and inspirational role in the future prosperity of not only the Humberside region but the UK as a whole

“Any initiative which helps promote entrepreneurial spirit and celebrate local success is to be welcomed and we’re delighted to be involved in this event.”

Neil Hudgell Solicitors – which this year is celebrating its fifteenth anniversary – regularly supports local community initiatives.

Other community initiatives launched to mark the fifteenth anniversary celebrations include:

• The Neil Hudgell Solicitors Trust – a scheme which gives community groups across Yorkshire the chance to bid for up to £1,000 each, with 15 organisations being rewarded every three months.

More Hull Primary Schools achieve National Standard for Enterprise Education

Priory Primary and Paisley Primary schools have successfully been assessed by Warwick University on their fantastic enterprise activity within the schools; they have now become the latest Hull Primary’s to achieve the National Standard for Enterprise Education. The award of the National Standard recognises the schools commitment to embedding enterprise into their curriculum and celebrates the various activities and enterprise challenges that pupils are involved in.

With these two schools achieving the award it takes it up to 14 primary schools and Malet Lambert school achieving it in Hull.

Craig Grewcock, The University of Warwick assessor, said

“Paisley Primary had a strong submission including several sections of the audit likely to serve as future exemplars for other schools as to completion of good practice; there was also a well planned and managed range of enterprise activities in the school. Priory Primary have a committed head teacher supported by a knowledgeable, experienced and enthusiastic enterprise coordinator, the level of enthusiasm for enterprise activity demonstrated by pupils during the assessment indicated the fantastic impact it was having on their learning”

Paisley teacher & enterprise champion Allison Stabler said,

"Paisley are very proud to receive the National Standard for Enterprise Education award as it recognises the children's effort and hard work. Being involved in projects such as the regeneration of the Pulman Street playground, singing in local residential homes for the elderly and honouring Hull's lost trawler men through creative art shows an enterprising commitment to the community. The award is very special as every child; from our youngest 3 year olds to our mature year 6 pupils have contributed to achieving this National Standard."

Steven Bayes Portfolio Holder Economic Regeneration & Employment siad

“Both schools have been part of The Hull Ready Project sponsored by Hull Training and St Stephens for a number of years now and have enterprise champions amongst their teaching staff. Priory and Paisley were also involved with the recent round of Make £5 Blossom that saw them link with local business partners Claughtons and NPS who were on hand to loan the children £150 and support them with their business ventures. I am pleased to see that even more young people are learning enterprise skills in order that they can become either the entrepreneurs of tomorrow or indeed enterprising employees.”

Twin girls turn £8.50 loan into £340 profit selling bag tags

NOT many can claim to have set up a successful family business at nine years old. But triumphant twins Amy and Laura Barton would have Alan Sugar purring after turning an £8.50 loan into an enterprise which has so far earned then £340.

The Year 4 pupils have sold 400 bag tags, which now adorn almost every student bag at Victoria Dock Primary School where they attend. The successful enterprise by Laura and Amy is part of The Make £5 Blossom project, set up by Hull Ready, an initiative designed to help tackle youth unemployment and raise aspirations by inspiring enterprise in schools.

The girls attend a ceremony at the Guildhall  to celebrate their achievements along with other youngsters across the city. Amy and Laura's classmates also made £432 after organising a school disco where they did everything from selling tickets to DJing. The class was given £150 by the school's Private Finance Initiative (PFI) partner the Sewell Group.Victoria Dock Primary has been involved in The Make £5 Blossom campaign for a few years but Amy and Laura's class was the first to decide to split the £150 up among smaller groups.

Laura said: "We came up with the idea at home.

"We realised that people like things with their name on it."
"It's really cool, seeing all the other children with the tags we've made."

Head teacher Denham Kite praised the girls' achievements.

He said: "We decided to get involved with The Make £5 Blossom project to inspire the children.

"It is a great idea and brings together a lot of different skills.

"It fits in with everything in the curriculum and involves communication, taking risks and perseverance.
