Make £5 Blossom

The ‘Make £5 Blossom’ initiative, run by Hull Ready in partnership with Hull Training, begins its seventh round of activities on January 18th where schools and businesses will be invited to the Guildhall for the official launch. Participants will be introduced to each other and the all important business loan will be handed over to the children.

This round will see pupils from the schools given a £150 loan from a business partner - £5 for each pupil in the class. The teams will then develop an enterprising idea for the school or local community and ideally make a profit from their hard work. The children will work on their venture and their business partner will be on hand whenever possible to give advice & help them forward.

The duration for this round will be approximately 14 weeks and then the schools and businesses will be invited to an end celebration event at the Guildhall on the 26th of April, here the children will carry out presentations to share their enterprise journey and talk about all the new skills they have been using throughout the project.

Councillor Steven Bayes, Portfolio Holder Economic Regeneration and Employment stated
“This is a great opportunity for local businesses to link to our Primary Schools and support some of the fantastic work that is already going on. I am always amazed at how enterprising our primary schools are and the fact that within the previous six rounds the pupils after paying back their loans have made over £30,000”

“I would urge Hull’s business community to continue to support this exciting initiative and who knows whilst passing on their best tips and advice they in turn could gain a different insight into running a business from the young people.”

Mike Notarantonio, Hull Ready Project Officer stated

“The project aims to raise aspirations and develop essential enterprise skills for the world of work, while bridging the gap between businesses and schools. Seeing the children working on their projects with so much enthusiasm is fantastic and then seeing them confidently carrying out presentations and referring to the Big 13 Enterprise skills they have used is a great spectacle”
